Project Overview & The Hazard
TMUK Group Ltd was contracted to execute a rapid electrical fit-out at a Camden Council vocational training centre. Upon initial inspection, it was identified that the facility's kitchen area had become heavily reliant on the hazardous use of multiple extension leads to power various culinary appliances.
The "daisy-chaining" of extension leads in a commercial environment presents a severe risk of thermal overload, potential fire hazards, and significant trip risks, fundamentally contravening statutory workplace safety guidelines.
The TMUK Solution
To eliminate these hazards, our engineering team designed and installed a permanent, surface-mounted power distribution system. We routed a robust three-compartment PVC dado trunking system across the perimeter of the kitchen area. This containment method ensures mechanical protection while allowing for neat segregation of the new wiring.
We subsequently installed dedicated 13 A twin socket outlets directly adjacent to the appliance stations, removing the need for any temporary power leads and drastically improving the ergonomics and safety of the workspace.
Testing & Statutory Compliance
Following the physical installation, all newly installed radial circuits were subjected to stringent dead and live testing procedures. The entire system was fully certified and signed off as completely compliant with the latest BS 7671:2018+A3:2024 wiring regulations.
"The client officially signed off on the works, explicitly noting their utmost satisfaction with our fast turnaround time and the immediate improvement to the safety of their vocational training environment."
